Adwords is a pre-programmed mechanism that reacts to keywords (or key phrases) being typed by someone in the search bar who is performing a search on Google and which displays advertisements placed by website owners who have bid on the keyword or phrase entered.

Google Adwords can be one way of driving visitors to your site, but something that Google don't tell you about Google Adwords is that according to Nielsen Net Ratings, the world's leading market research company on consumer web behaviour, 60% of web users DON'T click on Google Ads! That means that no matter how much you spend on your google adwords campaign, you are at best only likely to reach 40% of your potential customers. This is also something that companies who manage google adword campaigns for others (these include many SEO companies) are unlikely to tell you because by promoting the Google Adword service and running adword campaigns on behalf of their clients (although quite why people would want someone else to do for them what they can easily do for themselves continues to elude me), enables them to amass even bigger profits.

The truth often sound too simple. In order to capture the widest possible audience, you need to be in the first few websites listed by the search engines when someone types in a search term you want to be found under and in order to be found at the top of the listings you either need to arm yourself with the best SEO information you can buy and spend a long time (possibly years) trying to persuade other website owners that there is something in it for them if they link to your website (not an easy task; it took me more than a month of begging to get my first good link when I first started) OR you can allow yourself to be persuaded by some SEO company that you really ought to be concentrating on your business and let them do it all for you and unless you're extremely fortunate, you'll need to wait for months, even years before the promised results materialise, as you watch your website creep slowly up from the bottom page, page by excruciating page! After all, what's the hurry, the longer it takes and the longer they can report at least a little progress to appease you, the more they will earn.
There are so many crooked and openly dishonest people out there just waiting to fleece you, why do you think they send you emails, apart from the fact that they have lots of time on their hands? Surely if they were that good, those emails would contain a list of satisfied customers, and they'd be able to exist mainly on recommendations rather than having to spam you with their promises of a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
